JIM & TODD | OWNERS OF PERFORMANCE PINEWOOD

Performance Pinewood’s co-founders are a couple of car guys at heart.  Growing up with go-karts, snowmobiles and muscle cars fueled their passion for driving vehicles, friendly competition and going fast.  Their quest for finding ways to be better and faster runs through their veins like gasoline in a supercar.  While we are both veterans of learning about vehicle performance enhancements, each had little exposure to pinewood derby growing up.

Now… older, with many kids that participated in scouts and pinewood derby, we have developed a deep understanding of what works and what doesn’t.  Todd and Jim have found a passion for pinewood derby, even participating in adult pinewood events.  The two of them have amassed a tremendous amount of pinewood derby knowledge and can tell you quickly what works and what doesn’t.  We have each purchased the gimmicky performance tools, most of which don’t work, and some in fact will slow your car down!  The internet offers a wealth of pinewood derby knowledge, but in all honesty, a lot of the content you are likely to find (YouTube in particular) offers poor advice and will actually hurt the performance of your cars.

We founded Performance Pinewood on the principal of supplying our customers with a genuine BSA car kit and parts that have the basic building blocks of a competitive car already in place.  Our kits are perfect for those scout parents with a busy schedule or limited woodworking equipment.  We have put together a solid foundation for you and your scout to customize and complete a car (from an original BSA kit) that is unique to you. 

We are your “neighbor with a woodshop” full of tools and older children who dominated their pinewood derbies.  We welcome you to check out our car kits, parts and accessories.  Each product will include instructions and/or a link to an online video so that you are sure to understand how to get the most performance from our products.
